A Year of Triumphs and Community Growth with Chispa Arizona

Chisperos! As we approach the end of our term, we want to take a moment to reflect on our organizational journey and the incredible contributions of our members over the past year. It’s been a year of triumphs, growth, and transformation!

Our members are the heartbeat of our movement! This year, we welcomed 332 new members to Chispa Arizona, and with their support, we organized two impactful membership retreats and established four member committees: Clean Energy and Air Committee, Public Lands Committee, Democracy Committee, and Clean and Green Committee. Let’s take a glimpse at some of our collective community achievements:

🌎 Trees for Kids! 🌳 Secured $300,000 to plant trees in schools across the state.

🌎 Our members successfully halted over 200 bills that posed a threat to communities’ right to vote.

🌎 Latinx Conservation Week 🌿: In collaboration with HECHO, Sierra Club, REI, and more, our members participated in kayaking adventures, celebrated local artists at The Sagrado Galería, and engaged with the original stewards of the Sonoran Desert during film screenings – showcasing the diversity of our activities!

🌎 Protection of Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni – Ancestral Footprints of the Grand Canyon. Our members played a crucial role in securing the protection of nearly 1 million acres near the Grand Canyon.

🌎 Our members’ stories and the #EnvironmentalJustice movement received coverage in 45 stories worldwide – spanning countries like Australia and Brazil!

However, our success isn’t just measured in victories; it’s about community, growth, and connection. From youth committees to digital ambassadors, river clean-ups to Environmental Justice Escuelitas – our members have forged connections, building the power of our community!

The movement and fight continue! See you in 2024!

With love and in community,

The Chispa Arizona Team
